It is one of the world’s largest bronze sculptures featuring 45 heroic figures of land run participants, frozen in motion as they race to. The land run itself began at noon on september 16, 1893, with an estimated 100,000 participants hoping to stake claim to part of the 6 million acres and 40,000 homesteads on what had formerly been cherokee grazing land. One of seven in oklahoma, it occurred on april 19, 1892, and opened up land that would become blaine, custer, dewey, washita, and roger mills counties.
